"But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere."
~ 2 Corinthians 2:14
The Triumphal Procession. Immediately my mind flew back a few books to the Gospels. That's also how Jesus' entry into Jerusalem on the back of a donkey was recorded, as the people shouted "Hosanna!" In the moment, that scene makes for quite a seemingly triumphal moment. While the people who shouted and celebrated, though, Jesus was riding in fully aware of what would happen in the coming days. As He rode in triumphantly, He was looking to the JOY SET BEFORE HIM that was to come through His crucifixion. He knew He was going to die and to be raised again in victory. It was not the victory that the world expected; He was not crowned King of Israel as men of old had been. He died that all may live and when He rose, He rose as the King of kings and the Lord of lords forever and ever. King over all kingdoms, both temporal and eternal.
As I reflected on this mindset, I reconsidered this triumphal procession that God is leading us in. Our triumph is also not in that of this world but the eternal. It is not in our living but our dying with Christ and therefore taking part in His resurrection. Our triumph comes through His resurrection, not our success. Our triumph comes in knowing and loving the Living God and finding life in Him.
