Do you ever have those moments that seem to take your breath away? Like you're going through your day and suddenly, the Lord does something so small, yet SO significant at the same time. I mean, to the point where when you look at every facet of your heart He reached in a single moment, you need to sit down just to try and process all of it?
Well, the Lord took my breath away on Wednesday night with the receiving of this Lladro piece - "The Landing Dove."
My grandma had contacted me last week to say that a package was on the way and to let her know when I had received it. Already my heart was warmed by the fact that she was sending me something. Because, you see, my relationship with my dad's side of the family was not always the best, which is a kind way of saying it went through some extremely rocky times. However, coming up on three years ago, the Lord brought complete forgiveness and reconciliation to my dad's and my relationship. In the years that have followed that moment of reconciliation, I have watched the Lord do great things in my family and a renewal of relationships with the whole family. I am now seen for my true identity and not one that was tainted and inaccurate and broken. And it means a ton to me. So all of that to say, the fact that my grandma was sending me something, no matter whether it was a note or a gift of any kind, it meant a lot to me and reminded me of the kindness of the Lord to reconcile us.
What my grandma didn’t know is the place that doves hold in my heart. Time and time again, the Lord has used a dove to speak to me and remind me of promises He has made over my life. A year and a half ago, just when I needed it, I received a birthday package from my dad and stepmom. The gift on top was one of those little blue boxes. You know that box that is supposed to swoon the hearts of women? When I opened the box, I beheld a silver necklace with a dove pendant. I teared up then as I did on Wednesday and could not hold my worship back from the Lord.
The kind reminder of the Lord to say, “I have not forgotten. I am faithful.” And of course He is. I feel like that is a phrase common to my lips right now. “Of course He did that.” “Of course He set this up.” “Of course this is what He had for me.” “Of course.”
Why? Because I have come to know that He is just that good. I have come to know the goodness of the Lord. So why should it surprise me when I encounter His goodness.
As I considered the doves that the Lord had blessed me with, I pondered the “quality” of products He had used to bless me with. Without my asking or care of “product names,” to the point where I had to look up what “Lladro” was, the Lord gave abundantly. He said, “Not only do they not know the significance of what I am giving you and you have not asked for this reminder. Out of my kindness I will bless you. And out of my goodness, I will remind you with extravagance. Because the promises I have made are extravagant, I will treat them with the value they have.”
I was one of those still small moments when I sat in awe of the Lord. I felt truly humbled by the care He has for the promises He has made to me. And I was blown away by the evidence of the value HE sees in them and the level of extravagance and goodness He has for my life.
Thank You, Jesus, for Your goodness. Thank You that Your goodness is not contingent on my understanding.
I will extol you, my God and King,
And bless your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless you
And praise your name forever and ever.
Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised
And his greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall commend your works to another,
And shall declare your mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
And on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,
And I will declare your greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness
And shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
The Lord is gracious and merciful,
Slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is good to all,
And his mercy is over all that he has made.
All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord,
And all your saints shall bless you!
They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom
And tell of your power,
To make known to the children of your mighty deeds,
And the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
And your dominion endures throughout all generations.
The Lord is faithful in all his words
And kind in all his works.
The Lord upholds all who are falling
And raises up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
And you give them their food in due season.
You open your hand;
You satisfy the desire of every living thing.
The Lord is near to all who call on him,
To all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desire of those who fear him;
He also hears their cry and saves them.
The Lord preserves all who love him,
But all the wicked he will destroy.\
My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord,
And let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever.
